How to get on monsters in MHW?
Hitting a large monster with a jumping attack gives you a chance to mount it. Once mounted, you can attack it for as long as you stay held on. Doing your optional quests and helping people with their quests should help raise your HR. 9 star quests require a HR rank of 50 or higher. Doing the other available event quests should also work, ones with multiple monsters should give you a ton towards HR than against just one. Just gotta grind it out.

There isn't one single "rarest" monster, as rarity depends on the game and definition (rare species, event-only, or lore), but Lucent Nargacuga, Silver Rathalos, Gold Rathian, and limited-time Arch-Tempered variants are exceptionally rare in-game, while lore-wise, unique entities like Fatalis are considered singular, making them canonically the rarest, with Abyssal Lagiacrus also incredibly hard to find/hunt.
It is the third handheld installment in the Monster Hunter franchise. Like its predecessor, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, Portable 3rd is an original title that adapts the core content of Monster Hunter Tri into a new single player campaign, adding supplemental original content.
