By canon, the Dragonborn is a Nord. The Hero of Kvatch was an Imperial. My problems with playing a Nord are that you feel compelled to join the Stormcloaks, and IMO, Ulfric is even worse than the Thalmor for not only Skyrim, but all of Nirn.
