there are 2 bonfires. From the depths entrance theres 1 across from the starting area near the pillars where you can see the sun. Just follow the path and you should see it. Also theres a bonfire across from Quelaag's domain. to the right of the water wheel, if your facing it from her domain.

There isn't one before because the stage itself is part of the boss, defeat the minions first then the boss, standard in Demons Souls as well minus the Arch Demons.
